Our association
A shared voice.
A common purpose.
WAPA is an industry body established in 2001 to provide a global forum for representatives of apple and pear producing countries. The Association harnesses the collective strength of its members to enhance business opportunities for the benefit of both sectors.
This collective commitment helps maintain the position of apples and pears in the minds of consumers and strengthens the voice of their producers on the global political agenda.
Our objectives
What we work towards
Through the concerted efforts of its members, WAPA pursues six shared objectives.
01
A forum for dialogue
Discuss issues affecting apple and pear producing countries and exchange perspectives across markets.
02
Business opportunities
Support and enhance producing countries’ business activities for the collective benefit of the sector.
03
Shared market knowledge
Disseminate market information and expand the knowledge available to producing countries.
04
A fair return for producers
Improve the balance between apple and pear supply and demand, while working towards a fair return for producers.
05
Joint initiatives
Develop initiatives that benefit producing countries and have the support of WAPA members.
06
Stronger supply-chain links
Liaise with traders, retailers and consumers to highlight the role of producers in the supply chain.
Our priorities
From knowledge
to opportunity.
WAPA’s work responds to a changing global apple and pear business environment. Its priorities are regularly reviewed to take account of new developments.
Encouraging consumer demand
The association facilitates the exchange of scientific information about apples and pears and supports discussion of production best practices. The aim is to ensure that fruit brought to market meets consumer expectations for quality.
Improving the market position
Developing closer links with retail chains helps strengthen the position of apples and pears in the marketplace.
Making information easier to share
A common language improves the flow of data and supports communication within both industries.

How we work
Cooperation throughout the year
The day-to-day work of WAPA is coordinated by its Brussels-based secretariat. Regular meetings bring members together to exchange ideas and information of common interest and develop strategies to address shared industry issues.
